Guiding Principals

Grit

Many of us have grown up in a culture that has pathologized discomfort and were taught to avoid it at all costs. Although there is an intuitive sensibility to this, the act of discomfort avoidance is often taken too far, and has led to a severe lack of mental, emotional, and physical resilience.

Discomfort is a universal human experience and often serves as a catalyst for growth in mind and body. Without the willingness to work with discomfort, it will be very difficult for you to make significant and long lasting changes in your health and fitness.

Project Re-humanize aims to elicit both mental and physical discomfort in the training environment so you can be better prepared to take on challenges inherent in competition and life.

Grace

There are many habits and external factors—social, cultural, and environmental—that contribute to the deterioration of fitness and health. In order to achieve an optimal state of fitness, to transform yourself, you must acknowledge and respect all of these factors. Understanding and embracing the different aspects that contribute to your fitness and lifestyle will prepare you for your journey to betterment.

Project Re-humanize seeks to minimize unnecessary (yet common) obstacles that can get between your present state, and one of optimal health and fitness such as negative self-talk and self-limiting beliefs. Your training will take you out of your comfort zone and potentially elicit insecurities about your ability to succeed, but you will be taught to navigate them with grace, and self-compassion.

Growth

Your mind has amazing potential for growth. This is not a groundless abstract claim, but a truth recognized by neuroscience and anyone who has experienced significant change in their life.

Project Re-humanize’s approach to development is rooted in the recognition that every human possess the potential for significant growth: physically, emotionally, and psychologically. You will be pushed, and you will learn how to dare for greatness.

Sensible Integration

The terms health and fitness are often conflated. It makes sense to combine the two, but the misconception does not reflect reality and often leads to unnecessary injury, and lack of motivation. You can be fit with poor sleeping habits; fit with a poor diet; fit with terrible coping mechanisms to deal with life’s stressors. On the other hand, you can sleep well and be atrophied; eat well and have poor circulation, cope with stress and physically weak.

Project Re-humanize seeks to build awareness and appreciation for what it takes to nurture the major aspects of your being.
