Jamil Shakoor, LMSW, PT

Jamil is an ultra-endurance athlete and psychotherapist based in Brooklyn, NY. He holds a personal training certification, a BA in psychology, and an MA in clinical social work specializing in mental health.

Jamil’s coaching style is informed by over a decade of experience taking on physical challenges demanding a great deal of endurance, strength, and mental resilience. His approach is a holistic one, drawing from his education in psychology and clinical practice, along with lessons learned in the weight room and on the trails. His practice is the product of a thoughtful blend of grit and grace.

He trained extensively to prepare himself for an intensive military program, completed the Spartan Race series (Sprint, Super, Beast, and Ultra Beast), and many marathons and ultra-marathons to include a 100-miler where he earned a third-place finish, and a 24-hr marathon around a quarter-mile track covering 100 miles securing a second place finish.

Jamil has completed advanced courses in rehabilitation through the Postural Restoration Institute, and possesses a deep understanding of biomechanics and the etiology of common chronic conditions such as knee, shoulder, neck, back, and hip pain.

His favorite projects include facilitating a client’s transition to a health promoting lifestyle, a way of being they can feel proud of. He also enjoys coaching for extreme performances like Spartan Races, ultra marathons, law enforcement and military prep.
